LONDON BASED, NEW ZEALAND BORN SAMOAN OPERA SINGER, BARITONE BENSON WILSON
Award-winning baritone Benson Wilson is a New Zealand born, and of Samoan heritage, opera singer who is currently based in London, UK. In 2018, Benson Wilson won the prestigious Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Foundation Bel Canto Award and was also awarded the people’s choice award. Before heading to the UK, Benson Wilson also won New Zealand’s premiere singing competition, the Lexus Song Quest which has also been won by New Zealand’s very own Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Benson has performed an array of roles such as the Count in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, Schaunard in Puccini’s La Boheme and Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to name a few. Benson looks forward to covering the role of John Sorel, in Menotti’s The Consul this June with the Welsh National Opera and will also join the Salzburg Young Singer’s Project at this year’s Salzburg Festival for the month of July and August. This September, Benson has been invited to be a young artist at the National Opera Studio and will be on the programme until June 2020.
